Purse Watch Necklace. $20.00.

Check this out ladies! It is a purse watch necklace. The purse is silver. Check out the design on purse and on the handle. This is a must for you if you are a purse girl.
Apart from being tacky, not handmade and barely assembled, what really annoys me is how she’s just used the fastener on the chain to hold the watch. Some of her stuff looks straight out of Claire’s Accessories and other items are shop bought then embellished with rhinestones. Talent in abundance there! The seller bites too if you dare to enquire if she made the purse.

There is so much junk like this on Etsy. I am amazed that anyone thinks people will buy stuff that is barely touched by human hands. Adding a chain to something is so not special, people.

I joined Etsy in 2007, and one of the first forum threads I got slammed in was about sticking storebought pendants on a chain and calling that “handmade.”
I decided to make those kinds of barely-handmade threads my specialty, and I can’t even count how many times Etsy sellers have severely told me off for it – and I’m a buyer only. When I point out my buyer status, I generally am told “Whoop dee doo, so that makes you so special!” or something less nicely worded to that effect.
Way to go Etsy – junk strung on junk chains, and diss the buyers who are looking for better. Woo Hoo!

I love this site and I salute you for calling out all these junk artists! Now about the lovely piece you are sharing with us today… WTF!! doesn’t even come close. Couldn’t the seller at least have tried to match the chain metal to the watch? Not that it would make it any better than a chain clipped to a pendant piece of junk, but come on. Cute if your making it to give to your daughter, but seriously, not worth putting up for sale.

This particular seller likes to get on the forums and tell people to worry about their own shops and stop policing everyone. Well, this is why………she doesn’t want any focus on her stuff!

So, she calls herself out and then gets offended when people look at her shop? Teaching moment.

I have to add how silly it looks with the the clasp holding onto the pendant…..does she even know how to use jump rings?

Did SHE make these or were they made somewhere in China? (reseller!)

I would be surprised if she designed, carved, and painted these figures herself and is selling them for such a low price. I did a quick look for bird versions of the Three Wise Monkeys. Didn’t find birds, but there are online import shops selling a selection of other painted wooden animal trios.
I looked at the whole shop, and I think most of the items in there are reseller things. The items that are similar in quality to the purse necklace — such as the boxes with bits of beads and fluff glued on in a kind of sloppy way — might be handmade by the seller. But do I think she casts her own metal rings, sets the stones etc etc? NO!
The shop looks like a bit of WTF mixed in with a whole lot of TOU violations.

I also think the colour of the hands is quite funny. Isn’t that how they are on kids watches to help them tell the time? Not that that’s got anything to do with the seller, it’s not like she chose them
.

LOL I love her spider ring… looks like that stuff you can get out of those vending machines for a buck and she’s selling it for $14!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF

Oh, her…she started a fun thread not too long ago! A fine time was had by all. Ya know, I hate to say it, but I don’t really care for pendant-on-a-chain sellers. It’s one thing to put beads together, but premade pendants + premade chains are disgraceful, really.
Posted by MadeByM**** on September 29, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Exactly………………..I can go to any dollar, discount or department store and buy the same kind of necklaces there, without having to pay for shipping!

I don’t like the pendant-on-a-chain items, either, because I can go to the dollar store or Claire’s if I want to wear that crap. The rest of the items in this person’s store are kind of junky, too. I’m pretty sure some of the items are dollar-store crap being resold but I can’t always prove it. It’s clear she didn’t make the bird candle holder ( http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27792099 ), for example.
I do remember the “mind your own business” thread this seller started… she was very upset that people flagged her and figured she should be allowed to just do what she wants.

It’s hard to prove the source of the ‘dollar store crap’ because a lot of major wholesalers require you to register on the site with your sales tax ID number before you can see the online catalog (or receive a print catalog by mail). This offers protection from exposure for resellers who make a living passing fake antiques and vintage, or factory made crafts as handmade by them. Quite a few of this year’s trends on Etsy fall precisely within the product range of the wholesale industry. Maybe not a coincidence?

Check out her blog, where she calls herself out further. This is a very stupid person. Stupid and has some real personality problems.

Yeah, I’ve seen it. I’m not convinced it her.
